West Bengal is a coastal state in eastern India, with the state’s most populous city, Kolkata, lying on the Bay of Bengal’s shore. West Bengal State contains three urban agglomerations: Kolkata, Siliguri, and Asansol-Durgapur, as well as six municipal corporations. There are 117 municipalities and 252 census towns in Kolkata, Asansol, Chandannagar, Durgapur, Howrah, and Siliguri. West Bengal has a greater population density than other Indian states and is home to numerous large cities and small villages.
