Goa is the smallest state in India by geographical area, and it is fatalistically located at a mere 3,702 km². By population, it forms the fourth smallest state, sheltering 1.45 million residents. The state is divided into two districts, North Goa and South Goa, both peppered with small towns. Tourism is considered the prima facia of income for Goa because of the extensive coastline sprawled with picturesque beaches. Panaji, the largest city in the state, Panaji is located in North Goa, has a population of 114,759, and covers an area of 76 km².
Other than the beaches, Goa is also a heritage-rich state because of its history as a Portuguese colony. This heritage is reflected in its architecture, food, and festivals. The capital city, Panaji or Panjim, has an amalgamation of remains from the colonial period, with busy markets in the streets and the famous Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church. There’s more to Goa than beaches, as it is home to dense forests, gurgling waterfalls, and wildlife sanctuaries that attract nature lovers. The annual Carnival and different types of music festivals are some more events that go on to add extra glamour to Goa’s reputation as a year-round destination for the tourists who visit its shores from across the globe.
